Mittens by Lola M. Schaefer

Mittens by Lola M. Schaefer is an I Can Read My First Shared Reading book, illustrated by Susan Kathleen Hartung.  It may be a good independent beginnner book for 1st grade or advanced Kindergarten, as the pictures help the reader sort out the words.  I think the writers intended for the parent to read along first and then give their kid a go at it themselves.  Anyways, it’s a cute book about a kitten’s first day in a new home.

What I disliked:

It’s what I expected for a very beginner’s reading book.

What I liked:

The story line is cute and talks about feelings of being scared in a new place.  Very simple for a new reader to start building the confidence.  I believe there are other Mittens books to consider if your child likes this one.

Where to find it:

I have no idea where I purchased mine.  A garage sale maybe?  You can find yours on Amazon for less than $4 here.
