The Knight and the Dragon by Tomie DePaola

The Knight and the Dragon by Tomie DePaola is a precious little story connecting a knight and a dragon.  Tomie DePaola writes and does the pictures himself, so they align closely and often times tell the story without even needing the words, making it perfect for preschoolers to start early reading skills – turn pages left to right, look at pictures to clue on what part of the story they are at (beginning, middle, end), a conflict and resolution in the story, etc.

What I disliked:

I am a fan of Tomie DePaola and this book doesn’t let me down.

What I liked:

I love how simple the story and pictures are, yet how complicated and intertwined the life lesson that it teaches is.  It touches on the whole socialized hate aspect and how it can be overcome with a kind word and a brave soul.

Where to find it:

Mine came from my mom in the 80s, but you can find yours on Amazon Prime for less than $6 here.
